For the past few years, Terriifier has been one of the most exciting new slasher franchises out there. That’s thanks to director Damien Leone’s blood-soaked approach and the terrible Art the Clown. Before horror fans get Terriifier 3 next year, last year’s Halloween smash hit, Terriifier 2, will return to theaters in November. Now Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting have announced that the re-release of Terriifier 2 has been moved up one week from November 8 to November 1, 2023. This is perfect for any horror fan who doesn’t want Halloween to end.
When previously speaking about the relaunch, Leone was ecstatic: “This year is like nothing we could have imagined. Seeing all the love Terriifier 2 has received and the excitement this release has inspired from fans new and old is truly beyond words.” He would end by saying, “As a thank you to them and the many people who worked tirelessly on this release, we want to bring it back to the big screen where it belongs. And more than that, as fans eagerly await the release of Terriifier 3 next year, we will include some special surprises because one year is too long to wait.”
The terrifying legacy of cemented art ‘Terrifier 2’
While horror fans still have to wait to see what those special surprises are, it won’t be difficult to bring them back to the movies, as Terriifier 2 was one of the most unique slashers to come out in a long time. The film, which takes place a year after the original on Halloween, enhanced Art the Clown’s story with the introduction of «The Pale Girl» and his archrival Sienna. The latter has quickly become one of the most popular final girls in horror history thanks to Lauren LaVera’s genre-defining performance. Terrifier 2 acted as a gory horror epic that surpasses the gruesome deaths. They were only surpassed by the surprisingly deep and emotional story at its center. Art’s actions are horrible enough, but the context given in the sequel added a whole new layer of evil to the franchise. Sienna and Art are like the horror equivalent of Batman and The Joker. Their mysterious physical/mythological link brought a new coat of blood red paint to the slasher genre. The plot of Terriifier 3 is still unknown, but that connection will be explored further in the upcoming sequel.
When is ‘Terrifier 3’ released?
Terrorifier 3 has a current release window of late 2024 and the film will begin filming this winter. Terrorifier 2 was an indie darling when it was released last Halloween, grossing over $15 million at the box office on a $250,000 budget. That success fueled the theatrical re-release of the original Terriifier last summer, where it grossed nearly $340,000 of its small $35,000 budget. All signs point to both the re-release of Terriifier 2 and the debut of Terriifier 3 in 2024 being a huge win for the horror genre.
